Health Insurance Marketplace (Exchange)

Health Insurance Marketplace (Exchange)

Website: https://www.healthcare.gov/

Website Services: The Exchange is an online marketplace where individuals and small groups can purchase health insurance within their state. Montana is participating in this service meaning that anyone can view and purchase plans online. Under the minimum coverage, a “Bronze” Plan, the insurer will pay an average of 60 percent of the costs of covered benefits while the insured pays the remaining 40 percent in deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance.  Individuals then have the choice to purchase plans with more comprehensive coverage at higher premiums.

Bronze: Lower monthly payments, but higher cost when you receive medical care

Silver: Higher monthly payments than a Bronze Plan, but lower costs when receiving medical care than a Bronze Plan

Gold: Higher monthly payments than a Silver Plan, but lower costs when receiving medical care than a Silver Plan

Platinum: Highest monthly payments, but lowest costs when your receive medical care

How to Apply: You can apply for health coverage in the Marketplace 4 ways: online, with a paper application, by phone, or in person with an assister.

  • Apply Online by setting up an account on the Marketplace, fill out an application online, compare plans and enroll online.
  • You can fill out a paper application and mail it in. You’ll find out whether you’re eligible for lower costs on private insurance, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Once you get your eligibility notice, you can either go online to compare, choose, and enroll in a plan or contact our call center. A customer service representative will help you.
  • To apply by phone, call 1-800-318-2596, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (TTY: 1-855-889-4325). A customer service representative will work with you to complete the application and enrollment process.
